Misplacing your car keys can be very frustrating. You might be in a rush to work, or maybe you are on the way to the date of your life, and you simply can not miss it! Getting car keys replaced nowadays can be either very easy, or it can also be a little more complicated than you think.
In this post we are going to provide you with information about replacement of car keys with no existing keys. Please note this post is for educational purposes ONLY. You may NOT use this information for any illegal activity, we will not hold responsibility!
Replace car keys by VIN number
If you are the owner of the vehicle and managed to lose or misplace the keys, there is a cheap alternative to hiring a local car key locksmith.
Every vehicle has a VIN which is a Vehicle Identity Number, think of it as the social security of the car, only it could be transferred between owners. The VIN number can be found in several different places on the vehicle. For instance you can find the vin number on the dashboard and most of the time you can see it from outside of the car.
As we stated above, if you are the registered owner of the vehicle, you may take the title or the registration along with a valid photo identification to the dealership or a local locksmith, which they will be able to cut a brand new key.
This key matches only your car and will not work on other vehicles. As long as your car is not equipped with Anti-Theft immobilizer, the fresh cut key that has been cut by the vin number will twist the ignition and start the vehicle.
Are there any other ways to obtain the key code? Yes. For instance if you remove a Toyota or a Lexus driver or passenger door lock (the location of the key code may vary depending on year make and model of the vehicle) you will be able to access the key code and have it cut.
So the simple answer to the question can i get a car key made without original key is Yes, though at times it could get a whole lot more difficult.
I got a car key code by vin number got the car key made but it still wont turn the car on Well, that is because your car key has a chip in it.
That so called chip is a transponder which is a non volatile electromagnetic memory chip which holds a certain code and allows the car to turn on. Now let me explain to you a little more.
CheapCar Key Replacement
You went to the dealer and had a mechanical key cut by code with the VIN number you provided them, that key does not have a transponder chip therefore, it can not start the vehicle. When you place a key into the ignition that has the right transponder chip, the coil receiver will send the OK signal to the ECU (Engine Control Unit) which is the vehicle’s computer, the brain. When all the codes match, the car will then be able to start.
Can the dealer program this chip? Certainly, though you will have to tow the vehicle to the dealer in order for them to match the key to the vehicle. Now you will be spending more time and money just to get your car key programmed.
It might be more simple and more affordable to call a mobile automotive locksmith to come on site and provide you with a key replacement. Most car locksmiths are equipped with car key programmers and are able to match the chip to your vehicle.
The process of programming a car key is rather simple in most cases. It all comes down to the security level of the vehicle as well as the key programming equipment being used. Here is a short video of programming a car key on a Honda.
There are many different choices when it comes to car key programming equipment. Some are able to program certain car keys and some are not. So far we did not find a key programmer that is All in One type of deal. The most reliable one so far ( at least from our experience) is the Advanced Diagnostic MVP Pro.
It comes with a price tag, but if you are in the business of making and programming car keys, it is definitely a great investment!
BEWARE OF IMITATIONS!! There are many companies overseas who imitate the original equipment and the product is nowhere near as good as the original. In the image below notice how the name of the imitation key programmer is M8, we have tested the M8 it is not bad, though it can not be compared to the MVP-Pro!
